With Mother’s Day just around the corner I’ve put together some ideas to help you plan the perfect day for your mum (or to help you give your partner a little nudge if they need it!)
In the blog below, I’ve rounded up some ideas that mums will love, whether they are a brand new mum, a mum of lively toddlers, or a mum to grown-up kids you never stop worrying about. There is something for everyone!
So do read on if you are in need of some inspiration.
It could be that this is a very first mother’s day, or that the children are all grown up and have flown the nest. Either way it’s important to take a moment to make mums feel special and appreciated. So I’ve come up with 5 tips to help you do this.
Often a bit of thoughtfulness goes a long way when Mother’s Day is upon us - think about what would be the biggest treat for her.
If you have very young children, this may be as simple as a lovely long lie-in bed so that she doesn’t have to get up and tend to the early risers in your family.
Or in the busy-ness of early years of parenting, a few hours to herself in the afternoon when the children are taken off her hands may be just the ticket.
Older children could take over sorting the family meals for the day, if that’s usually something mum is in charge of. Although this may need a lot of careful planning and a bit of adult supervision depending on how good your children are at cooking!
Sometimes all you need is a bit of forward thinking to let mum know that you have been thinking of her and that she is appreciated!
There are very few mums who don’t appreciate a lovely bunch of flowers. We have some brilliant local florists around the Wetherby and Boston Spa area who go above and beyond to work with you to create something your mum will love.
Take a look at https://katemell.co.uk on the high street in Boston Spa, or https://www.therainflorist.co.uk in Wetherby, with all their wonderful collections of flora and fauna, along with beautiful unusual vases and trinkets.
If you don’t already know, make sure you ask mum what her favourite flowers are…is she a tulip fan, or would she prefer lilies or roses? This time of year sees florists blessed with a gorgeous array of colour and flowers so you can choose something truly magnificent.
Supporting local businesses is great for your community, whether it’s the gift shop or the cake shop. We are lucky to have great high streets and local artisans on our doorsteps in Boston Spa, Wetherby, Harrogate and York and lots of places in between.
The Boston Tea Party (148 High Street) caught my eye with their beautifully decorated delicious Spring Flower Cupcakes that they are selling in boxes of 4 for Mother's Day - although they look almost too good to eat. Do get in touch with them to place an order if your mum has a sweet tooth. https://www.facebook.com/thebostontp/
A favourite local independent haunt of mine that has recently reopened is Wetherby Cinema, completely refurbished and with an extra screen so they can show more films. Not only that, they also show live theatre, ballet, opera and comedy from around the world on different dates throughout the year. The place now combines a retro look with super comfortable sofas and locally made food and all sorts of drinks delivered to your seat. Gift vouchers are available and with so much variety on offer, there’s something for every taste. Have a look what they have coming up at https://www.wetherbycinema.com.
If what the mum in your life really needs is a bit of pampering, there are lots of avenues you could choose.
Products such as the natural organic ranges at Neal’s Yard Remedies are sure to be a hit and are great for enhancing wellbeing. Their Bee Lovely range offer affordable pampering products with 3% of sales also going towards charities which help save the bees! ww.nealsyardremedies.com
Or if you think your mum needs more of a personal touch with some helpful pointers for exercise, diet or natural skincare products, Lindsay at https://www.enhancewellbeing.ltd for advice on what might best suit your mums needs. She can put together gift vouchers for you to present on Mother’s Day and it might just be the kick start she has been waiting for.
I couldn’t write a list of Mother’s Day suggestions without mentioning what a great gift photographs are - and even better than just any old photographs are pictures of mum WITH her children. It is a gift that becomes more precious with time, and one she will absolutely adore.
Mum’s often love to see themselves with their children, and these photographs can be few and far between especially if mum is the one who takes most of the family pictures. My spring mini shoots which are running in April and May are the perfect gift at £155 for the photoshoot, 4 high resolution digital jpegs and a fine art print. Gift vouchers are available here or feel free to contact me directly.
If you have any suggestions of other experiences or gifts that you think mums would love, do please let me know as I’d love to keep updating this blog.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope that it has been useful!
