Studio Portrait Photographer of the Year, British Institute of Professional Photography - Yorkshire Region -
Whenever I’m planning to visit anywhere new, I like to do a fair bit of research beforehand. Ideally, I like to see what the place looks like, so that I know what to expect. Chances are that you’re the same?
With this in mind, I thought that you might find it interesting to be able to have a look inside my photography studio.
Whether you’ve already booked a studio shoot with me, or if you’re still in the deciding-to-book stage, then I hope that you find this sneak peek helpful.
A very warm welcome awaits you at my photography studio!
Since it’s located within my home, in Boston Spa, near Leeds, you’ll find that it’s really convenient if you’re a family from the village, or if you live in one of the many neighbouring places such as Wetherby or Tadcaster.
It’s also just half an hours drive drive from the city of Leeds, and it’s easily accessible from York and Harrogate and other areas in North and West Yorkshire.
I’ll confirm the exact address when you make your photoshoot booking. On arrival, there’s signage to direct you to the entrance, and plenty of parking on the driveway or the street.
In my photography studio, I shoot many different types of portrait session. It’s a multi-purpose space that's incredibly versatile.
One day it can be setup for a newborn baby photoshoot, and the next I could be welcoming a pregnant lady for an indoor maternity shoot, a toddler for a baby portrait session, or a family and their young children. It can be so many different things, simply with just a little juggling around of the furniture and props!
Another thing I love about it is that the space is perfect for keeping little ones contained! This is why an indoor studio photoshoot is a popular choice, particularly with families of younger children.
As any parent will know, having a safe and confined space is invaluable when a child has hit the age where they are beginning to crawl or take their first steps, and are into EVERYTHING!
Unlike an outdoor photoshoot where there is endless space to roam, my photography studio keeps your little one close to hand at all times.
You may not have ever been inside a professional photo studio before. In which case, one thing you’ll likely notice when you first arrive is the equipment. I use professional photography studio lights, of course, as well as various pieces of camera equipment.
Another essential item is my collection of coloured backdrops. These create the timeless photo studio backgrounds for all the portraits I create. Backdrops are cleverly mounted onto the wall and hang in front of the window, and roll back up when not in use.
A typical newborn photo studio also features specialist bean bags for newborn photography, onto which babies are laid. I have a myriad of coloured wraps, blankets and adorable baby outfits, as well as an extensive stash of props!
From these, we select your preferred colours so that I can create artwork for you that works seamlessly with your home decor.

Being home-based, my Leeds photography studio also offers all the comforts of home. My hope is that you feel at ease from the minute you arrive.
I have a space for you to sit and relax throughout the session, and a place for you to hang you coat and any outfits you have brought for the session.
Refreshments are available too, as are baby wipes and a baby changing mat should you have a little one with you when you visit.
My Leeds photography studio is truly the hub of my business. It’s where I do all my indoor photoshoots, and is a godsend in the colder months when the weather would make outdoor shoots impossible.
It also doubles up as my office when not in use for client portrait sessions, and I spend many hours in there editing portraits and creating the beautiful images that later become the works of art that hang on the walls of my client’s homes.
So that’s what my photography studio in Leeds is like! I hope this insight has been useful.
