Creative ways to display your family photos in your home

Andrea Thornton • May 09, 2022

Once you’ve invested time and money into a professional family photoshoot, naturally you’ll want to  display your family photos in your home so that you can enjoy them.

When it comes to deciding how best to do that, I'm here to guide you every step of the way!

Why display your family photos?

Something you should know about me is that I am not a photographer who will simply hand over a USB for it to end up languishing in a drawer, where the photographs may never see the light of day. It’s really important that we get your images printed out in an album, or up on your walls.

I believe that even in this digital age, those precious photos deserve an audience!

Your family and children are also the most precious people in your world. Seeing photos of your family on display around your home will give you an instant boost! They'll warm your heart, bring a smile to your face and provide you with great joy each and every day.

Printing your photos is a great way to preserve your precious family memories

Preserve your family memories by printing your photos

If you choose me as your family photographer, I can offer you creative ways to display your photos in your home to suit your style and your budget. It’s all part of the service.

All these photo display options are a fitting way to ensure that your family photos get seen and appreciated for many years to come.

It’s only through printing that you can truly preserve photographs - unfortunately most people know firsthand how easily digital photos can be lost or erased. If you’ve not printed any family photographs for years, please heed my advice and do so!

How confident can you really be that those digital photos are 100% safe and will still be there when you want to view them in years to come?

Four creative ways to display your family photos in your home

Following a shoot, I will show you examples of different ways we can display your photographs.

 1.      Photo frames

Framed photos are incredibly versatile and can create huge impact. The bigger the better, I think!

A large stand alone piece might be perfect for your home. Or you may like to choose a number of photographs for your shoot to display, in which case a multi-aperture frame could be a great option for you.

The photo frames I offer my clients are made locally, here in Yorkshire, and I work with a local framer whose attention to details and craftsmanship is second to none.

All the photo frames are completely bespoke so that you don’t need to compromise on the size or the number of photos you include, or the colour or finish of the frame. You have many options available to you so can have it made exactly as you want it, and I'm here to help with a few suggestions to spark some ideas that would be perfect for you and for your home.

For example, the triple aperture vertical frame holds three photographs and is a beautiful wooden moulding with a smooth lacquered finish. A grey frame with a matching deep inner bevel detail (shown below) is a popular combination.

I particularly love these multi-aperture frames because by displaying a series of images, you can reveal more of the moments we shared during your photoshoot. It adds a lovely story-telling element to the photo display.

We can experiment with different mounting styles, which will help give your images extra impact on your walls.

Photo frames are a versatile way to displaty your family photos

Another thing to know about all the framed photo products I offer is that they come ready-to-hang, so you can have them up on your walls in no time. There’s no need to add string or hooks – it’s all already done– meaning that you can have it on display in your home quickly and without fuss.

It’s also important to me that everything I provide for you is the very finest quality.

All frames include non-reflective glass so you can see the photographs incredibly clearly. You almost wouldn’t know that the glass is there and no detail or colour is lost. They are stunning and the quality is really amazing, as you will see at your viewing and ordering session.

2.      Art Blocks

A second way to display your family photos at home is an ‘Art Block’. These are a modern alternative to canvas and are incredibly smooth and very durable.

As with the frames, these professionally printed photo products are bespoke and available in many different sizes so are therefore priced individually.

The quality of these Art Blocks is far superior to that which you’ll get from a high-street printer. I can assure you that every small detail has been considered in the making of them, and they would look lovely in both contemporary and more traditionally styled homes.

3.      Legacy Boxes

If you wish to display your family photos in an extra special way, then the handmade Legacy Boxes could be for you. When I first came across this product, it really took my breath away. They are beyond beautiful!

With these, you can display a number of family photos. Simply choose which ones you wish to include in the box and rotate the top photo print that’s displayed through the glass topped lid as often as you wish!

This clever design and impeccable quality of my Legacy Boxes makes this a popular choice among families who are looking for something timeless and extra special.

They are also particularly brilliant for those who are also short on wall space. You can display up to 20 different photographs in the Legacy Boxes. You’d need a lot of space in your home to display this many on the walls!

If you’ve also had a number of photoshoots over the years, the Legacy Box is also a great way to collate a number of photographs from each session, creating a complete collection of beautiful fine art portraits of your family as it grows.

All photos within a Legacy Box are fine art mounted prints, and the box itself has a beautiful leatherette finish in a choice of colours. They are made in Italy, using the finest materials and to the highest specification.

This really is a product that will stand the test of time, and that you will never regret investing in.

4.      Photo albums

Last but certainly not least are my photo albums. Again, these are beautifully printed and hand-made up in the mountains of northern Italy by a skilled team of dedicated craftsmen and women.

These high-end albums are a lovely way to display a collection of family photos and can hold up to around 14 photos in total.

Full page colour photos, printed right up to the edge of the page, with a matt finish, create a real wow factor.

Alternatively, several photos can be included per page. Whatever your preference, I’ll collaborate with you to design a layout of your family photos that you’ll love.

The albums come within a custom-designed box which is simple and artistic. You and your family and friends will no doubt love flipping through the pages and marvelling at the many gorgeous images from your newborn shoot, studio shoot, or outdoor family photographs

Family photo displays: Tips and recommendations

When it comes to displaying photos in your home, there are no hard and fast rules about what you should do or how many family photos you should display. The only rule is that you need to get them printed out so that you can enjoy what we have created, and remember your family at this moment in time.

With the plethora of beautiful photo products available on the market, including those I’ve mentioned in this article, you’re limited only really by your imagination!

Where should family photos be displayed?

The walls in your hallway, lounge/sitting room, kitchen or bedrooms are all ideal places for displaying your family photo fames but, as I’ve shown here, you can also have boxes and albums so they needn’t necessarily be hung on the wall. Do what works best for you and to suit your home.

The main thing that I’d love you to take away from reading this is that it’s important to print your photos, and that there are many creative ways to do so!

Make an investment into photo products and wall art and I'm confident that you’ll be so glad you did! You'll be able to keep the memories alive and recall happy times spent together.
