The type of maternity photoshoot you choose is a very personal decision.
If you’re unsure as to whether to choose an indoor or an outdoor photoshoot, I am here to help and advise you.
Both types of pregnancy portrait sessions create wonderful results though so, ultimately, no decision will be a wrong decision!
Here are four reasons why you may want to opt for an outdoor pregnancy photoshoot:
The time of the year that your baby is due will likely be a factor in your decision around whether to choose an indoor or an outdoor maternity photoshoot.
The bleak, dark days of winter are obviously not conducive to a bright and airy outdoor photoshoot! However, if you’re in your final trimester in the spring, summer or autumn, then the weather conditions may well be perfect.
Spring and summer months are when I do the most outdoor maternity sessions.
Mild warm evenings are ideal, and I tend to head out with my clients to a beautiful spot in a local park or woodland, around dusk. This is when we can enjoy what photographers call ‘golden hour’. The sun is low, and the light is at its most warm and flattering.
In a similar vein, you might prefer an outdoor maternity photoshoot if having photographs with a natural backdrop is important to you. Perhaps you have a specific location in mind that’s special to you?
Studio shoots are done against a range of neutral or coloured paper backdrops and, as beautiful as these are, this may not be the look that you’re after.
As you’ll know, here in Leeds and surrounding areas, we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful locations. If you have a location in mind, that’s great – perhaps a venue that means a lot to you. If not, I can happily recommend somewhere that I know will be perfect.
During an outdoor maternity photoshoot, we can be in nature and create a variety of stunning portraits with differing backdrops. Simply by just walking around a park or woodland, we’ll come across different landscapes.
Wherever possible, I’ll look to incorporate seasonal flowers and scenic surroundings. Depending on the time of year, we may be able to capture you against a backdrop of lovely flora and fauna to add visual interest:
· In Spring, there may be delicate blossoms, bluebells and daffodils
· In the summer, there are blooms in a variety of colours and rich, full foliage and long grass
· And, later in the year, red and burnt orange leaves which are just about to drop, or that are scattered on the pathways, add a lovely autumnal touch.
Finally, if the freedom of the outdoors is appealing to you, then I’d recommend an outdoor maternity photoshoot.
You may love the sense of openness and space that you’ll get from being outdoors, and this may lead to more natural photographs as a result.
If you’re someone who loves being in nature and spends much of your spare time outdoors, then chances are this is where you’ll feel most comfortable and the least self-conscious.
Whether you’d like to enquire or book in for an indoor or outdoor maternity photoshoot, do get in touch so we can chat it through. I would love to be your pregnancy photographer!
If possible, get in touch early (just after your 20-week scan) so we can pencil something into the diary in the lead up to your expected due date.
As a mum of three myself, I know that pregnancy is far from glamorous most of the time. I promise you, though, that a maternity photoshoot will make you feel amazing!
It’s an opportunity to take some time out of your busy schedule to celebrate the imminent arrival of your baby, either alone or with your partner. Since your lives are about to change hugely when you become parents, surely this moment is one you’ll never want to forget?
Pregnancy photographs will tell the story of your journey to becoming a mum and help to keep your memories of this special time alive.
The stylish pregnancy portraits I’ll create will be ones you come to treasure in the years ahead - when your baby bump is only a fading memory, and your child has grown beyond belief!
